Until two weeks ago, Team UniSA - Australia rider Will Clarke, an amateur cyclist from Tasmania, did not know he was going to ride in the 2012 Santos Tour Down Under. But after qualifying for Team UniSA - Australia at the National Road Cycling Championships, he cemented his spot in the team and has gone on to create Tour history by winning Wednesday's stage. After breaking away from the peloton within the first two kilometres of the 148km stage, Clarke had the legs and cool head to fend off a hungry peloton through to the finish in Stirling. The AllTrails tour group rode out to the start, watched the race begin, then rode some of the race route before heading to the finish at Stirling. The atmosphere is alive with TDU cyclists passing 3 times then finishing. What a stage and what a great effort by a young Australian to take out the stage. We will be adding photos from the TDU to our Facebook album here. |
