All Trails Past Rides
Adelaide to Melbourne 2006
The colourful groups of cyclists, with bikes sparkling in the early morning sunlight pushed their way to Lavers Hill, then climbed 500 metres before plunging through dense forests to Apollo Bay, the start of the famous Great Ocean Road.
Here the riders weaved their way around the bluestone cliff walls above the crashing waves, enjoying every bit of this 1100 km cycle tour, which started in Adelaide and finished in Melbourne, the day before Bicycle Victoria's Around the Bay in a Day ride.
Cyclists from all over Australia and overseas took the challenge of riding up to 190 km per day through the Lofty Ranges, seaside resorts, acres of vineyards, pine forests, extinct volcano and above magnificent limestone structures. The diverse spread set a high standard of cycling as they constantly pushed their limbs to the limits before being pampered with afternoon tea and massage and a hearty meal.
They loved All Trails organisational skills and also enjoyed the slightly misleading profile maps, on some days showing flat terrain when sometimes a hiccup of a hill. An enjoyable ride, lots of characters and fun with congratulations to all and thanks for making our ride such a pleasant task, with many good memories from great people.
