Audax Alpine Classic Training Camp 2006

The one moment that I remember most about the Audax Alpine Classic Training Camp, is when I overtake a cyclist climbing the mountains and look at their steely eyes in a grimacing face, twisting in pain as they push downward on their pedals, looking straight through me as I drive the bus slowly towards the top, with the much appreciated morning tea on board.

Their faces show grit, determination almost anger whilst nearing the summit, however their elation at the top, while gasping for breath, is electric. It's a proud moment for a cyclist, a classic climax.

Phil Anderson, his ability unquestioned, lead the coaching panel with many tips on riding a bike to full efficiency. Steve concentrated on the body, physiology, skills, stretching and recovery, with Laurie maximising the bike set up, the training and safety.

All Trails Bicycle Tours organising the four day Melbourne Cup long weekend, with Phil McDonald sharing his enthusiasm for achieving and Susan sharing her muffins and goodies.

Seventy kilometres to Mount Buffalo preceding the 120 km Sunday circuit before the big one, to Falls Creek, passing twice over Tawonga Gap.

The cyclists excelled with no falls, great company, interesting instructions and a wiser, faster safer cyclist returning home.

Thanks to the cyclists for helping everyone enjoy a fun Melbourne Cup long weekend. It was the best bet yet.
