Tassie West 2007

Hobart, Queenstown, Strahan & Cradle Mountain, just some of our luxurious overnight stops on our exciting adventurous Tassie West ride.

We cycled past the Franklin and Gordon River, Nelson Falls, swam in Rosebery Lake at Tullah and saw the magestic Cradle Mountain with Dove Lake shimmering in the sunshine below.

Tasmania is a treat and we were spoilt.

Congratulations to you all.

All Trails Bicycle Tours

Poem by Simon Woods

Van Dieman’s land is where you went,
If you were bad, long time ago,
Out of sight and out of mind
Twas, Britain’s own Guantanomo,
And as they lay there on the rack,
The cat o’nine tails on their back,
Did they think, once we’re a nation,
I’ll just pop back here on vacation.

Two hundred years have come and gone,
And we’ve been very bad as well,
We eat too much, we sit around,
And watch our aging paunches swell,
Phil and Susan, help us please
We’ve aching joints and dicky knees,
In Tassie, two heads beats just one,
We need some pain - just make it fun.

Sue numbered us like Jean Valjean,
To help us out if we got lost,
A metal badge fixed ‘pon our chests,
Recalled our names, lest we forgot
Short term recall just gets shorter,
And at our age, so it ought’a,
At the roll calls Phil soon learnt,
That all were here, ‘cept some who weren’t

Old Hobart town, was hot as hell,
They haven’t heard of aircons here,
Nor even fans –I guess they plan,
That this way sells more Cascade beer
And as we went West, many groaned,
What the “f*****” – no mobile phone,
Arnaud’s Gallic blood would boil,
No extra virgin olive oil!

But Phil won’t hear, the likes of us,
Complain, we’re far too tough for that,
Though some do find it’s hard to cope,
When their latte’s not low fat,
He can lock us down in dongers,
Make the hill climbs, steeper, longer,
We’ll pedal on and never cease,
Well – ‘til morning tea at least

Cause elite athletes, like we are,
(Though he’ll not find us ones to boast,)
From bodies honed like fine machines,
We strive to get the very most,
Protour riders may do well,
On Gatorade and power gel,
But we have found a better way,
With merlot, pinot, chardonnay

The profile maps – well what the hell,
It’s just as well, we love you Phil,
Who would guess a dead flat line,
Really represents a hill,
But, the scenery’s been great,
Susan made sure none lost weight,
Adrian helped keep old limbs supple
Peter fixed bikes at the double

And all too soon we’ll be back home,
We’ll clean our chains and wash our knicks,
Friends all view us strangely ‘bout,
The way we choose to get our kicks.
When they mutter – you’re just mad,
At your age – lycra – man that’s sad,
We’ll just say, beneath our breath,
Give us Liberty – or death
