Darwin to Broome Departs Tomorrow

Here's What the Group Is Riding Into

Tomorrow morning, a group of cyclists rolls out of Darwin on one of the longer outback bicycle tours we run. Destination: Broome. Distance: 2,289 kilometres through Kakadu, Katherine, and the Kimberley. Time on the road: 22 nights.

It's a big one, and we're quietly excited for them.

The Route in Numbers

  • Distance: 2,289 km on sealed bitumen

  • Daily average: 116 km (some days reach 150 km+)

  • Nights: 22

  • Difficulty: 8/10 — flat terrain, but long distances at a 25 km/h average

The route heads south from Darwin through Kakadu, down to Katherine, then west across the Kimberley to Broome. It suits capable, consistent cyclists who are comfortable spending long days in the saddle.

What They'll See Along the Way

This isn't a featureless outback slog. Cycling through Kakadu National Park, Katherine Gorge, Edith Falls, and Wolfe Creek Crater — at bike speed, in the early morning light — is a genuinely different experience to arriving by car or plane. By the time the group reaches Cable Beach in Broome, the landscapes they've passed through will feel well and truly earned.

Optional extras like a Bungle Bungles scenic flight or a camel ride on Cable Beach add to what is already a full itinerary of inclusions such as the Yellow Water cruise in Kakadu or Mimbi Caves near Fitzroy Crossing.

How It Works

AllTrails has run fully supported, guided bicycle tours across Australia for 30 years. Support vehicles travel with the group, accommodation is booked and ready each night, and meals are handled. The riders bring their bikes and their fitness — everything else is taken care of.

The Darwin to Broome consistently rates as one of the most-loved tours among cyclists who've done multiple trips with us. Not because it's easy, but because it's well-run and the experience is a real one.
