This Great South West Walk Tour is a 9-day fully supported, guided walking tour around the Portland end half-lap of the Great South West Walk in southwest Victoria, running 14–22 April 2027. Covering 131km of diverse coastal cliffs, pristine beaches, quiet forests and clifftop tracks, this pack-free small group tour suits moderately experienced walkers looking for a comfortable, well-supported experience through one of Australia's most under-the-radar walking destinations.

Pssst! Have you heard about Southwest Victoria’s best kept secret?

The Great Southwest Walk (GSWW) is a unique and serene walking trail tucked away in a quiet pocket of Victoria. Noted for its diverse scenery, the GSWW meanders through quiet forests, untouched beaches, rugged clifftops and along the magnificent Glenelg River. With hardly another human to be seen (beyond the camaraderie of our special group), the over-abundant wildlife may be the only other company you’ll keep.

And there’s no need to lump heavy bags and camp! By joining AllTrails on our fully supported and ensuite-accommodated tour, you can walk the track by day with a light daypack and relax in comfort by night. Enjoy morning tea and lunch stops set up for you along the route, quality evening dinners, first-aid qualified guides, safety briefings, vehicle support, luggage transfer, and great camaraderie, rejuvenating nightly with a little luxury, and a lot of fun!

We have divided the GSWW circuit into two distinct half-laps which we will run at different times; one based at the Portland (Eastern) end of the circuit, and the other at the Nelson (Western) end. Over the two distinct tours there are no missing sections, the daily distances are achievable, and you walk at your own pace - no group marches here! AllTrails creates bespoke tours for the discerning traveller, and our tours are not churned out en masse – get ready for unique experiences where the crew are as excited to be on tour as you are.

In 2027 we are offering the ‘Portland End’ half-lap.

Quick FAQs

What/Where is the Great South West Walk? The Great South West Walk is a 250km circuit trail in southwest Victoria, passing through diverse landscapes including coastal cliffs, pristine beaches, quiet forests and the Glenelg River. It is one of Australia's best kept walking secrets. AllTrails divides the circuit into two distinct half-laps; the 2027 tour covers the Portland end half-lap (131km over 9 days).

What level of fitness is required? The terrain is generally flat to undulating with a difficulty rating of 7/10, mainly due to some longer days. Daily distances average 17km with shorter options available, and you walk at your own pace — there are no group marches. A reasonable base level of walking fitness is recommended, particularly for multi-day back-to-back walking.

Do I have to carry my own pack? No. This is a pack-free walking tour. Luggage is transferred between accommodations each day by the support vehicle, so you only need to carry a light daypack on the trail. Trail snacks and refreshments are provided along the route.

Can I skip sections of the day's route if needed? Yes. Shorter daily distance options are available on most days, and you can take a full rest day if needed. The support vehicle provides daily transfers to and from the track and can assist at designated meeting points along the route.

How much does the Great South West Walk tour cost? Prices start from $5,290 AUD per person (twin share) for the 9-day tour. A deposit of $400 per person is required to secure your place. Full pricing details are available in the Tour Brochure PDF on the tour page.
