Join AllTrails for our flagship 2027 European Tour — the Poland Expedition

In 2027, we're heading to a country that has long deserved more attention. Poland is one of Europe's most rewarding yet most overlooked destinations. It is a country of extraordinary depth and 1,000 years of history, where medieval castles and Gothic cathedrals sit alongside landscapes that are quietly, genuinely beautiful and diverse. Modern Poland has a booming economy and an energetic vibe. Gone is much of the drab concrete of the communist era, replaced by new modern cities, but don't worry, beautiful Old Towns, historic architecture and quaint villages still abound. This will be an intriguing journey of discovery in a place that feels real rather than rehearsed and a destination that may not remain overlooked for much longer.

The riding itself is wonderfully accessible. Poland's central plains are largely flat and offer some of the most comfortable long-distance cycling in Europe. The country rewards those who take it slowly and take it in.

We begin in Gdansk on the Baltic Coast — a port city of colourful facades, amber markets, and the birthplace of the Solidarity movement that helped change the course of modern Europe. Riding south, we visit the world's largest medieval castle at Malbork, roll through the UNESCO-listed city of Torun (birthplace of Copernicus), and take in the grand market squares of Poznan and Wroclaw. A sobering and deeply moving visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau reminds us why history matters. Then comes Krakow — Poland's former royal capital, with its famous castle, cathedral and Europe's largest medieval market square. A remarkable day ride to the Wieliczka Salt Mine follows, where underground chapels have been carved entirely from salt. We finish in Warsaw: a city that rose from near-total wartime destruction to become one of Europe's most vibrant capitals. In all, this single journey takes in seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites — a remarkable concentration of heritage for one trip.

Once on the ground, Poland is good value — entertainment and dining cost less than in Western Europe, leaving room to slow down, try everything, and enjoy the journey fully. The food is diverse: traditional hearty soups, slow-cooked meats, fresh bread, and more varieties of pierogi (Polish dumplings) than you will have time to work through, as well as a thriving modern dining scene.

This is the European tour that will consistently surprise you and is perfect if you are keen to cycle 'somewhere different' in Europe's 2027 summer — all with the confidence that comes with booking with an Australian-based tour company.

Who is this tour for?

This Poland Expedition suits cyclists who love to learn as they ride — people drawn to history, culture, and the satisfaction of covering ground through a country with so much to give. The terrain is mostly flat, making it accessible to a wide range of riders, though the distances are real: you'll average around 85km per day across 22 riding days, so a solid base fitness is worthwhile before you arrive.

If you've already ticked off the usual European favourites and are ready for something that feels genuinely different — somewhere with outstanding architecture, deep historical resonance, and wonderful local food, without the big tourist crowds and tourist price tags — Poland will not disappoint. Three built-in rest days give you time to breathe and explore at your own pace, and with everything taken care of, you can simply settle into the rhythm of the road and let the country do the rest.

Quick FAQs

How fit do I need to be for this tour? You'll be cycling an average of 84km a day over 22 riding days on mostly flat terrain, with a few days over 100km. A solid base fitness is recommended - if you can comfortably ride 85km on back-to-back days before you arrive, you'll be well prepared.

Can I do just one stage instead of the full tour? Yes. The tour is bookable as the full 22-night Gdansk to Warsaw journey, or as two separate stages - Stage One (Gdansk to Wroclaw, 10 nights) or Stage Two (Wroclaw to Warsaw, 12 nights).

Do I need to bring my own bike? Most cyclists hire a bike for this tour rather than bringing their own. Bringing your own bike is possible, subject to bike packing considerations - contact us for details.

Are e-bikes available? Yes, e-bikes are welcome on this tour, though numbers are limited so early booking is recommended.

What's included in the tour price? Accommodation, breakfasts and most dinners, all guided tours and entry to key sites, luggage transfer, support vehicles, local bilingual guides and AllTrails tour hosts, and tour leader gratuities.

What's the deposit and payment schedule? A non-refundable deposit of $800 secures your place, with a progress payment due 30 days later and the balance due 90 days before the tour departs.

What time of year does this tour run, and what's the weather like? The tour runs in July, during the European summer. Poland's northern location keeps it cooler than the Western European countries further south, with warm days and mild evenings and the occasional shower - a great time of year for cycling.

Do I need a visa? Australian passport holders travelling for tourism purposes for under 90 days generally don't require a visa for Poland. Contact your nearest embassy or consulate for current requirements before you travel.

Is this tour suitable for solo travellers? Yes. Solo travellers can pay the single room rate, or join the Twin Share Request List to be paired with another solo traveller of the same gender.

What Our Cyclists Say

"I really enjoyed the tour. As a first timer with AllTrails overseas I did not know what to expect and was therefore somewhat apprehensive before going, but the guides were excellent - always helpful, fun to be around, mechanically knowledgeable, and nothing seemed too much of a bother. They had good knowledge of the areas we were riding through and staying in, worked really hard during the day and were able to adapt when situations changed at the last minute. Hotels were good and breakfasts top class. I liked riding at our own pace, not having to keep to a time schedule for food breaks, and having the option to hop in the van if we wanted." Sandra (VIC)

"AllTrails was a great trip and while not cheap, met or exceeded our expectations regarding hire bike quality, hotel standard, inclusions such as many evening meals, walking tours etc and level of organisation. Our European guides were fantastic and it was great having our tour hosts riding with us. Our large group got on well and while some days were challenging, we all enjoyed riding into and through the often-gorgeous villages, towns and larger cities." Tony (VIC)

"Wonderful trip, great cycling, interesting places, and a great group to travel with. The food was great and we were able to appreciate regional differences, although the coffee and gelato were great everywhere. The trip notes were fantastic, interesting info about the places we were cycling through as well as supplying the necessary logistical information. The support was good, and every help was afforded to make the trip stress free. I would love to do another trip like this again." Anne (NSW)

"We had a great time. Our guides were extremely obliging and did everything possible to ensure our safety and enjoyment. The van was regularly in sight and provided water, snacks, fruit and lifts as required. We also appreciated their local knowledge re sights to see, local food and culture and events to attend." Ruth and Frank (NSW)
