Quick FAQs

Is this tour all on rail trails with no traffic? No. The tour combines back roads, bike trails and some rail trails across varied routes. Most roads are quiet but there will be some car traffic, particularly near towns along the route.

What type of terrain and riding surface should I expect? The terrain is mostly flat to undulating with a few steep pinches. The surface is varied — approximately 60% unsealed (coarse and fine gravel, clay, dirt, and occasional ballast or sand) and 40% sealed asphalt. A hardtail mountain bike is recommended for most riders, though a hybrid or gravel bike is fine for advanced cyclists comfortable on rough terrain.

What level of fitness is required? A good level of fitness is recommended. Daily distances average 45km with some days around 60km. This is not a high-endurance tour but the varied terrain and surface provide their own challenge. A support vehicle is always available if you need a rest or want to skip a section.

Can I skip sections of the day's route if needed? Absolutely. The support vehicle travels with the group and you will see it multiple times during the day at certain points along the route. You are welcome to hop in whenever you need a break from riding.
