WA's Great South West Cycling Tour is a 17-night fully supported guided road cycling tour through the spectacular south west corner of Western Australia, running 1–18 February 2027 from Albany to Perth. Covering 1,115km through the Margaret River wine region, ancient Karri forests, Cape Leeuwin, the Naturaliste Peninsula and the stunning south coast, this tour is available as a full 17-night experience or as two separate 9-night stages. It suits experienced road cyclists comfortable with 80km daily averages, with some longer and more challenging days built in.

Margaret River, Karri forests, ancient caves and two capes — welcome to WA's spectacular south west corner

AllTrails has been guiding cyclists around the best parts of Australia for 30 years, and the south west corner of Western Australia is one of those destinations that genuinely stops you in your tracks. This isn't just about the world-renowned Margaret River wine region — though a guided winery tour, tasting and lunch is included. It's the sheer variety that makes this tour so compelling.

On any given day you might be riding through towering Karri forests on the famous Tourist Drive 250, dropping down to ride a remote stretch of south coast with the Southern Ocean crashing alongside you, or wandering the historic port town of Albany with its magnificent harbour. The region's geology is ancient and dramatic — sea caves, coastal cliffs, granite headlands and river valleys all feature across the route.

The wildlife here is extraordinary and entirely on its own terms. Kangaroos, emus, black cockatoos and the occasional echidna are regular companions on the road, with little to no effort required on your part to seek them out.

What sets this tour apart from simply doing it yourself is the freedom it creates. Every detail — accommodation, meals, luggage, navigation, vehicle support, mechanical help — is handled. You arrive in Albany, clip in, and ride. Our crew will be with you every kilometre of the way.

Quick FAQs

Can I do just one stage of the WA Great South West tour? Yes. The tour is structured as two separate 9-night stages that can be booked individually or together. Stage One runs 1–10 February (Albany to Margaret River, averaging 74km per day) and Stage Two runs 9–18 February (Margaret River to Perth, averaging 85km per day). You can book either stage or both.

Will the weather be hot in February? There is a good chance of some hot weather, particularly in the northern stages closer to Perth where average highs reach the high 20s. The south coast runs cooler with average highs in the low 20s, and much of the tour is spent along the coast, which helps keep conditions comfortable.

What type of cycling is involved? Sealed road cycling throughout, on a mix of coastal roads, forest drives and inland routes. Daily averages are around 80km with a difficulty rating of 7/10 — some days reach 100km and there are occasional hills. A road bike is recommended.

What level of fitness is required? A moderate to strong level of fitness is recommended. This is not a beginner's tour, but shorter daily distance options are available on most days and the support vehicle is always on hand if you need a break.

How much does WA's Great South West Cycling Tour cost? A single stage starts from $5,350 AUD per person (twin share). The full 17-night tour starts from $9,990 AUD per person (twin share). A deposit of $400 per person is required to secure your place. Full pricing is available in the Tour Brochure PDF on this page.

What Our Cyclists Say

“This was a really great way to visit and enjoy the beautiful southwest of Australia. So much to see and experience on the way. Much more than I expected. I would certainly recommend the ride to any of my friends, because there is always the option to go harder & faster or ride further …. And to get off the bike when your body says you’ve done enough. …we had a great time and if the opportunity arises, we would join an All Trails ride again.” Wendy (NSW)

"The lower corner of WA offers spectacular views, varied landscapes, and wildlife that was up close and personal. The crew were efficient, friendly and professional — and following AllTrails' advice on preparation ensured I really enjoyed this hard but fun-filled tour. My expectations were high and I was not disappointed." Robyn (QLD)

"I have completed my tour and it was fantastic. Special thanks to [the crew] who looked after us — they went above and beyond a number of times. They are a good bunch." Alan (NSW)

“We were looked after very well. On the road, with our accommodation, and we had plenty of good food. I don’t know how [the crew] found so much energy! A very pleasant holiday.” Michael (VIC)
